The Marvin Era 2.0
Now that Marvin Lewis has officially agreed to what is believed to be a 2 year extension, one has to wonder how effective he will be going forward. The deal took a couple days to get done. Marvin walked away from Tuesday's meeting not knowing if he would return. According to reports, Katie Blackburn played a big part in bringing the two sides together to finalize the deal and convince Marvin to return.
I hope that Marvin's return means that Mike Brown made at least some concessions. It would seem that offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski will not be returning. The same holds true for T.O. and possibly Chad. Mike Brown seemed very defensive and combative at the press conference, which could be a sign that concessions were indeed made. At least that is the prevailing hope. So, we should get a good idea over the next few weeks whether things will change or if they remain the same.
The question remains, can Marvin avoid becoming permanently Bengalized or can he turn the ship around and chart a new, sustainable course? I think he must become the disciplinarian he once was and continue drafting well. I for one still think Marvin is a good coach and hold out hope that he can succeed if Papa Brown stays out of his way.
